MY 2019 RESOLUTIONS
If you’re a procrastinator like me, you probably planned some resolutions but never fully implemented them into the new year. That’s perfectly normal with the Holidays just ending! January is the trial month, remember? I listed some resolutions that hit hard for me. It meant getting outside my comfort zone and really gaining more self-awareness. Hopefully, this will help you too!
1.LESS SCREEN TIME / MORE REAL TIME
It’s easy to get caught up on your phone. In fact, it’s nice to mindlessly scroll on Instagram and catch up on everyone’s day. Many people have a problem staying on too long where you don’t even become productive. iPhones now have the capability to show users their screen time broken down by categories. So, put down the phone, share some laughs with loved ones, read a book, start that project you’ve been procrastinating on and live your LIFE.
2. KILL COMPARISON
My #1 resolution will help with #2. It’s nice to get inspired but stay woke. Catch yourself if you start to feel like you are not enough. Don’t beat yourself up if you see people living the life you want. You don’t know what goes on behind the scenes when all they’re showing is the highlighted reel. Like J. Cole said himself, “You ain’t ever gonna be happy till you love yourz”.
3. WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE TO DO PEOPLE HOW THEY DO YOU, DON’T.
This might be a tough pill to swallow. Karma is a bitch but it’s not your job to put it on others. We’re living higher these days. To really move on, you have to forgive (but shit, you don’t have to forget). No matter how much someone did us dirty, you have to be better than that. We’re GROWN in 2019. Don’t give that someone the satisfaction that you still have strong emotions towards them or the situation.
4. OWN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES
A fresh start to the new year means you have to gain self-awareness. Self-awareness is the conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires. In order to grow, you have to own up to your mistakes. When someone comes up to you with an issue, do you blame them or reflect your own actions first? When you own up to your mistakes, you realize a lot about yourself & how you treat yourself. Your personality is your business card.
5. SELF CARE: MENTAL & PHYSICAL
I’m so happy that “self care” made a long and lasting impression in 2018 to social media that I want to make it THING in 2019. We can get so wrapped up in work, family, relationships, friends, etc., that we often forget to care about ourselves. Self care doesn’t mean you have to have a luxurious bath or facial. Self care can include meditating, even for 5 minutes!
7. GET THE BAG & DON’T SETTLE FOR LESS
This is one is for the freelancers. Never sell yourself short with brands. Do the calculations to see if working with a brand is really worth your time. If they aren’t paying you, then they sure as hell better be a brand that could help lead you to other brands and network with other people or it better fulfill your soul. If it doesn’t, it’s not worth selling yourself less than what you actually deserve.
8. TIDY UP!
I did not realize how much of a hoarder I became. Once you free up your space a bit, you’ll realize how free your mind is! Thanks to Marie Kondo, I’ve been saying “thank you” to every piece of clothing that did “spark joy” but doesn’t anymore. If you haven’t watch Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, I suggest you do so NOW. This show will motivate you to throw out EVERYTHING that doesn’t serve you anymore, and that’s a great start to your new year :)
9. STAND UP FOR YOURSELF
Chin up, heart strong. We’re learning to stand up for ourselves this new year. It’s time people know you are worth the respect they overlooked to give you from the beginning. Do not be afraid, timid or intimidated. Those who love you and care for you will understand where you are coming from.
And that’s all she wrote :) What are your 2019 resolutions?!
Blessings,
M
