WHY HIIT IS THE BEST FOR BUSY PEOPLE
WHAT IS HIIT?
HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. The training consists of rest or low to moderate intensity intervals to high intervals. It basically means go hard on an exercise so much you're running out of breath, then do a low intensity work out right after or even rest.
WHY I STARTED DOING HIIT
I remember years ago when I started lifting, I was told to walk the treadmill at the maximum incline level (15) and a speed at 3.5-4.5 speed for 40 minutes. 40 MINUTES, GUYS. It was recommended I do this for about 3-4 times a week in order to shred. I saw the progress with my peers, but I didn't see the progress within myself. Why? Because I honestly couldn't stick to it. It was long, I was tired from work and I really do believe I have ADD so you can only imagine how bored I got. I found HIIT to be quick, effective and most importantly..fun! You can create your HIIT work out a million different ways and tailor it to your liking. With my busy schedule, I always want my work outs to be explosive and time effective. I hate dragging my feet in the gym, because it takes away time from getting other things done throughout the day.
MY CURRENT WORK OUT
1. WALK 30 SECONDS
2. SPRING 30 SECONDS
REPEAT FOR 15 MINUTES
Note: Walking - I usually start off with a speed of 3.5 then up it to 4 or 4.5
Sprinting - I typically start off at a speed of 6 then all the way up to 8-9
I do this 2-3 times a week
HIIT BENEFITS
- Short yet effective work outs, which why it's best for busy people. Get it done & over with!
- Burn more fat in less time than long distance running
- You'll burn fat long after your work out is completed.
- You don't need equipment. Yes, I use a treadmill, but I can easily do the work out in a park or track. You can also incorporate HIIT with various exercises like burpees, jump squats, scissor jumps anything you deem EXPLOSIVE!
- You lose weight, not muscle
- You'll increase your metabolism
HIIT workouts were not made to be done EVERY DAY. It could lead to hitting a plateau and ultimately injury. With proper diet and water intake, I noticed progress. I highly recommend this to anyone who is always on a tight schedule or anyone looking to switch up their workout routine.
